George W. Bush - - - Father of Democracy - - -
--- In the Middle East! ---
Bull puckey you say???
Well stop and look at what has happened since the liberation of Iraq.
There are blooming democracies in Egypt, Revolution in Lebanon, and insurrection in Libya.
Rumblings of change in Yemen, Bahrain, Tunisia, Syria, and renewed moves toward reform in Iran are all new developments since Bush ousted Saddam.
When we first went to war with Iraq one of the thoughts was to plant a seed of democracy in the area.
Now what these emergent democracies will bloom to be is yet to be seen, but certainly they are better off than they were under bloody tyrants.
I am predicting that history will credit George W.Bush with being the “Father of Democracy” in the Middle East, stranger things have happened!

" I told you so ! ! ! "
Life in the People's Republic of Maryland
Defeated gubernatorial candidate Bob Ehrlich (R) is off to Washington working for a big-time law firm, hobnobbing with his friends in the Republican Congress and auditioning as a national media "talking head."
Which only proves poet George Herbert's axiom, "Living well is the best revenge." But a close second is being able to say, "I told you so."
Tax 'n' spend
Ehrlich warned that Maryland's ongoing, one-party, tax 'n' spend culture would result in more spending fueled by more taxes.
Sure enough, the budget emerging from Annapolis increases this year's spending by 10.6 percent ($1.4 billion) while leaving next year's projected spending $1 billion beyond projected revenues (the structural deficit).
Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) and the General Assembly balance this year's budget by cutting state aid to the counties, raiding reserve accounts, robbing transportation and environmental funds, borrowing into the future at historic levels, relying on accounting gimmicks and raising taxes.
Oops, did I say taxes? The Democrats say they aren't raising taxes, just fees. When Gov. Ehrlich raised fees, O'Malley and the media called them taxes. (Remember O'Malley's "fees are really taxes" TV ads?) But now, when the Democrats raise fees, they're just fees, not taxes.
Same thing happened with slots. Ehrlich's slots were evil; O'Malley's slots are "an investment in our future." Likewise, O'Malley excoriated Ehrlich for raiding transportation and environmental funds, then did the same after he became governor.
This year's new taxes (fees) include a $260 million tax on hospitals that you'll see in your health insurance premiums, the doubling of vehicle title and property recordation fees, hikes in MARC and Metro fares and a 50 percent sales tax raise (6 percent to 9 percent) on alcoholic beverages.
A 5-cent plastic bag tax is also working its way through the legislature and, possibly, a $1 to $9 per month "wind tax" on your energy bills to finance O'Malley's $1.5 billion offshore windmill farm. A 10 cent-per-gallon gasoline tax increase is stalled only because, facing $4-per-gallon pump prices, lawmakers aren't suicidal.

Effin Lawyers - - - -
"In the last few days, Obama administration officials have frequently faced the question: Is the fighting in Libya a war? From military officers to White House spokesmen up to the president himself, the answer is no. But that leaves the question: What is it?
In a briefing on board Air Force One Wednesday, deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes took a crack at an answer. "I think what we are doing is enforcing a resolution that has a very clear set of goals, which is protecting the Libyan people, averting a humanitarian crisis, and setting up a no-fly zone," Rhodes said. "Obviously that involves kinetic military action, particularly on the front end."

A Presidential Candidate I could support !
Haley Barbour will travel to Nevada on Tuesday to meet with Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) and have lunch with a handful of state legislators, a visit that suggest the Mississippi governor will make a major play in the Silver State caucus in early 2012.
While Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina have received the lion’s share of attention from 2012 wannabes, Nevada is slated to be the third state to vote — on Feb. 18 — in the presidential primary process. In 2008, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney won the Nevada caucuses easily, with more than 50 percent of the vote in a still-crowded field; that result had many potential 2012 candidates shying from the state early on.
The Nevada trip is the latest in a very busy schedule for Barbour of late, as he prepares for a near-certain presidential announcement next month. Barbour spoke to the California Republican convention over the weekend, stopped in Iowa last week, will be back in the Hawkeye State later this week and will be in New Hampshire on March 27 and 28.
Barbour has also made news with a series of high-profile staff hires in early states, the latest being Sally Bradshaw, a longtime adviser to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. (Bradshaw worked for Romney in 2008.)
“I’ve known Haley for a long time, and I’m convinced he’s the right person for the job,” Bradshaw said in an email to The Fix on Sunday night. “With Haley, what you see is what you get; he’s not afraid to speak the truth and be bold in the face of challenges.” Of Bradshaw, Bush said: “[Barbour] is fortunate to have her if he runs.”

Palin - - - first baby steps in international diplomacy !
"JERUSALEM (AFP) – Sarah Palin, darling of the US Republican right, joined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for dinner at his Jerusalem residence on Monday on the second day of a "private visit" to Israel.
The meeting, at which the two were accompanied by their spouses, was off-limits to the media, and Netanyahu's office did not immediately publish any statement.
A photograph released by the Israeli Government Press Office showed the two couples standing in front of the Israeli and United States flags in the residence."

Missouri to Libya - - - nonstop !
"Three Missouri-based B-2 Spirit bombers were among American forces taking part in the strikes inside Libya early today, according to the U.S. Air Force.
After the initial salvos of more than 100 Tomahawk missiles fired on Saturday from U.S. Navy ships, three of the aircraft from Whiteman Air Force Base led strikes early today on “a variety of strategic targets over Libya,” the Air Force reported.
The B-2s flew a 25-hour round-trip mission and dropped 45 guided weapons, each weighing 2,000 pounds, on hardened aircraft shelters in Libya, the Air Force reported. The planes returned to Whiteman early Sunday afternoon."

All the "Usual Suspects" are getting "Happy Feet" !
"Arab support for the US-led war in Libya showed signs of fraying today in reaction to the sheer destructive power of the initial attack, claims of civilian deaths and a warning by Muammar Gaddafi to prepare for "a long war".
The secretary-general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, appeared to wobble just over a week after his organisation, which represents 23 Arab states, voted in favour of a no-fly zone. Pictures of charred bodies led to not only the Arab League but also Russia and China expressing regret over the violence. Moscow claimed the US-led coalition was going beyond its UN mandate to protect civilians and called for an end to the "indiscriminate use of force".

Palin weeks ahead of the Obama Regime !
"The call by the Arab League for Western military intervention in an Arab state — in this case asking that a UN “no-fly zone” be imposed over Libya – is not only without precedent but it puts in formal terms what Governor Palin stated three weeks ago should have been America’s response to the political and humanitarian crisis now unfolding there.

Common sense is not all that common - - - at least in Japan !
First let's look at the map - - -
Now let's look where the Nuclear Power Plants are - - -
Now admittedly Nuke plants need lots of cooling water but there are lakes and cooling towers ! ! !
But let's for a second stipulate that they need to be on the ocean .
What are the two major dangers (as current history demonstrates) to Nuke plants ? Earthquakes and Tsunami right ?
Now look at the first map and guess which side of the island of Japan is most subject to Tsunami ?
Why in the name of The Emporer, were plants built on the Tsunami exposed Pacific coast ? ? ?
Have the Japanese never heard of power lines ?
Put the plants on the sheltered side of the island, build them to withstand a 10.0 earthquake, and on ground high enough to escape Tsunami.
It is really a matter of common sense, which again does not seem all that common !

"REUTERS - Muammar Gaddafi's forces pushed towards the Libyan rebel stronghold of Benghazi on Wednesday and his government predicted victory within days while world powers debated imposing a no-fly zone to help stop him.
Foreign powers condemn the crackdown but show little appetite for action to support an uprising that was inspired by pro-democracy rebellions that toppled the Egyptian and Tunisian presidents. A Gaddafi victory and a crackdown on protests in Bahrain could turn the tide in the region against pro-democracy movements."

"The massive earthquake that struck northeast Japan Friday (March 11) has shortened the length Earth's day by a fraction and shifted how the planet's mass is distributed.
A new analysis of the 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan has found that the intense temblor has accelerated Earth's spin, shortening the length of the 24-hour day by 1.8 microseconds, according to geophysicist Richard Gross at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif."

Some people would whine if you hung them with a new rope ! ! !
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — The Marine Corps says it has issued a suicide-proof sleeping garment to the imprisoned Army private suspected of giving classified material to WikiLeaks.
Col. Thomas Johnson said Thursday that Pfc. Bradley Manning was given the smock Monday as a substitute for clothing that is removed each night from Manning’s cell at the brig in Quantico, Va.
Manning says in a memo to base commander Col. Daniel Choike that the clothing-removal order on March 2 was punitive. He says the bulky smock is uncomfortable.
Manning’s memo is a rebuttal of Choike’s decision on March 1 to deny Manning’s request for an easing of the maximum-custody order that keeps him locked up alone 23 hours a day.

Last month, 17 officers were indicted on federal charges in connection with a towing company extortion scheme, and 14 others were suspended from work. Rescuers have called off attempts to save a man who fell into an abandoned mine shaft, despite video footage showing he was still breathing.
The 28-year-old man fell 190ft into part of Murphy's Mine Complex in Jersey Valley, Nevada, on Wednesday.
But the shaft was so unstable that parts of the walls were crumbling and rocks were hitting rescuers on the head, forcing teams to postpone the operation.

Goodbye, Negro Mountain
Blair Lee
Perhaps you mistakenly believed that Maryland lawmakers were preoccupied with the state's budget crisis or the $33 billion unfunded public employees' pension and health care liabilities or the spike in home foreclosures or the unemployment rate.
No, despite these pressing problems, our state lawmakers still have plenty of time for contentious racial arm wrestling. The latest Culture War clash over racial symbols and "gotcha" politics involves renaming mountains and replacing statues.
Two African-American state senators want to rewrite history more to their liking.
Sen. Lisa Gladden (D-Baltimore city) recently discovered a height in faraway Garrett County named Negro Mountain. According to Western Maryland lore, the mountain was named in honor of a black frontiersman who died in the French and Indian Wars defending white settlers against hostile Indians, now called "Native Americans," not to be confused with illegal immigrants, now dubbed "New Americans."
Anyway, after sitting there for 250 years minding its own business, Negro Mountain has become a cause celebre for black lawmakers and their guilt-ridden white enablers.
