Why Social Security Sucks - - -

First off you pay income tax on your entire income before your FICA (SS) amount is deducted, so you are paying tax on your payments into the system.

Then, if you live long enough to collect, your SS payments are taxed if you have any other significant income.

In my case, even though I am disabled for Social Security purposes, I still have to pay taxes on 85% of my Social Security Disability payments.

If that is not bad enough that tax is applied to your wife's payment as well unless you file separately and  pay a major penalty.

This is outrageous double taxation and you can thank a Democrat Congress - - -

If Obama wants to tax the rich perhaps he should write a check to the treasury !

Limbaugh just gave $400K to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, in addition to proving incentives to donate which also costs him money .

Marooned !

Two lawyers had been marooned on a deserted island for several months. The only thing of value to them on the island was some tall coconut trees that provided them some sustenance.

Each day one of the lawyers would climb to the top to see if he could spot a rescue boat coming...

One day, the lawyer yelled down from the tree, "Wow, I just can't believe my eyes! There is a woman out there floating in our direction!"

The lawyer on the ground was most skeptical. "You're hallucinating, you've finally lost your mind!"

But within a few minutes, a stunningly beautiful woman washed up on the beach, face up, unconscious, buck naked, not wearing even a ring or earrings.

The two lawyers went down to the water, dragged her up on the beach and discovered, yes, she was alive, warm and breathing.

One said to the other, "You know, we've been on this God forsaken island for months now. It's been such a long, long time... Do you think we should... well... you know... screw her?"

On American values - - -

A not too bright European socialist questioned the meaning of American values. Well I am no PhD. but I tried to explain as best I could - - -

Most Americans believe that their rights are granted by a higher power rather than granted by a King or some all powerful government. That gives us the moral authority to change our government when it fails to meet our needs and makes the government our servant rather than our master.
Europeans by tradition have always had some monarch to look after them and the tradition of something free from their rulers and governments. I recall a drama I was watching about the downturn of a manor house and it’s accompanying village. The estate was in financial difficulties and the village had to be sold. One of the residents lamented “I don’t know what we will do , the Laird has always looked after us”.  It was just a drama, and just a line, but an indication of the historical mindset.
While Europe was busy building empires and trying to enslave the world and rule it’s oceans we were trying to find a little corner of the world away from empires and free from the constant battles and bickering of Europe.
In Europe the game on the land is “owned” by the landowner and they can control the means, methods, and the timing of their harvest. Hunting is the pastime of the rich and the large landholders. Here the game belongs to the people, and there are large tracts of land where the public is free to hunt. The poor man can put venison in his freezer, and catch enough fish for an occasional meal without cozying up to some landowner.

We Americans take that so seriously that the 2nd amendment was included in our
constitution so that we would always have the right of self defense. We have not only the right but the ability of the weak to resist the strong by allowing them to possess weapons. In Europe they seem to think that the authorities can protect the masses, when in reality the victims are long dead before the authorities arrive.

We Americans like to move about the country on our own terms, not tied to public transportation, or undue government regulation. We (before the Liberals rose to power) were permitted to do stupid things if it made us happy. We could climb mountains, bungee jump off of bridges, float wilderness streams, jump out of airplanes without government permission.
We are free to make our fortune without undue government regulation and taxation, and we generated more millionaires than the entire rest of the world.
In Europe, due to the very high tax rates, the only people who could get rich were the very lucky and those who’s family already had money.
We have always had a tradition of wild eyed optimism and an entrepreneurial spirit where people could seek and make their fortune.
We also have a tradition of independence and self reliance that would allow a man to take an ax and a rifle and settle a piece of land.
Our rugged individualism provides us with a thousand paths to liberty, in Europe the horizons are much lower and the paths much harder.

Note that we do not guarantee that you will be happy or that your outcome will be equal to those more or less skilled or wise. We strive to establish a level playing field where everyone has the same chance to achieve their dreams. Europe with their vast socialist programs strives for an equal outcome irrespective of ability, despite the reality of human nature.
We see that as unfair, and more astutely Un-American!

I was skeptical of DADT (Don’t Ask Don’t Tell) also. But, it worked because the objective was to permit individuals to serve. Not once did I ask a Marine if he or she was a homosexual or a heterosexual. It was not an issue for me, and the Marines with whom I served never made it an issue.

Unlike DADT, the current agenda in not about individual service. It is a political agenda focused on total integration and acceptance, not of individuals, but of the homosexual lifestyle.

I think ending DADT suddenly is a major distraction to combat readiness and good order and discipline. Special interest groups whose primary intent is fostering total acceptance not only of homosexuals but the homosexual lifestyle are using the Armed Forces as a judicial lab rat.
I am suspect of any person who puts any personal issue above devotion to duty and accomplishment of mission. Are we Marines 24/7? What is more important one’s sexuality, one’s religion, one’s political party, or the imperatives of duty?

On a practical level:
I am not sure what serving “Openly” as a homosexual means. I would like to see a definition. Is all homosexual conduct permitted? Such as, cross dressing and going to the PX? What conduct is not permitted? From a command and leadership perspective these questions need to be addressed, and the Congress needs to make the necessary adjustments to the UCMJ.

When someone joins the Armed Forces must he/she declare their sexuality? i.e. male or female, homo/hetro, bisexual, transgender?
I want to know how Federal hate speech laws apply to the Armed Forces. For example, If a non-homosexual Marine calls a homosexual Marine a “faggot” is that hate speech? Will company commanders be required to take judicial action? If no judicial action is taken, will commanders be subject to civil or criminal suit by various homosexual political groups and their elected sponsors.

Will a career Marine’s personal opinion on homosexuality become an impediment to promotion or assignment to key billets?
Specifically, is the belief that homosexuality is a choice and homosexual acts are immoral no longer compatible with military service?

Do the Senate and the House Armed Services committees intend to demand sexuality statistics to make certain that homosexuals are being promoted at the same rate as non-homosexuals? Will homosexuals be promoted at a faster rate to “compensate” for previous years of discrimination?

Because same-sex marriage is not authorized by Federal Law is a married homosexual from Massachusetts authorized to enlist? Does the spouse of a married homosexual rate a dependent’s ID card? Will “partners” of homosexuals be given dependent status?
If yes, what is the definition of a “partner”, one night stand, one year relationship? How often may a homosexual change partners and the partner still rate dependent benefits? Will partners of homosexuals be assigned to on-base housing? Do former “partners” of active duty homosexuals retain dependent benefits (like a divorced spouse) when divorce is not a legal option?

Will homosexual Marines be permitted to date each other? Live with each other as “partners” in the BOQ/BEQ”? How does this affect fraternization regulations?

Will homosexuals be deployed to countries where there is no SOFA in place and in which homosexuality is a crime? If no, who picks up the slack?

Are there any assignments to which homosexuals must be or may not be assigned? For example, may an elected official demand a homosexual officer as a military aide?

Will homosexuals who become HIV positive still be discharged? Is being HIV positive now a “service connected” injury which rates disability?
These are just the tip of the ice berg. I have no doubt that right now there are active duty colonels who are just now discovering their real sexuality and can’t wait to be the

FIRST OPENLY HOMOSEXUAL GENERAL!

To sum it up, it is approaching FUBAR status!! I fear for the future of our Corps.

I have not the slightest problem with education, but indeed that education needs to be tempered with real world experience for the person to be effective at what they do.

A good (no great!) example of an EI is the present resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. He is purported to be the smartest man ever to hold that job and yet it is obvious to everyone with two brain cells that he does not understand the American economic system. He is also supposed to be a law scholar, but he seems to fail to understand the role of the Supreme Court and it’s responsibility to overturn unconstitutional laws.

I spent 22 years in the service, and as I became a Senior NCO I found myself spending more and more time bailing Lt Fuzz out of situations he brought upon himself because he was very long on self esteem, and more than a little short of common horse sense.


My next 25 years was spent in the R&D field, working in the Flight Test Engineering department of a leading Aerospace company. I worked with some great Engineers, but again I found myself bailing out fresh faced college boys who were long on education but short on experience.



I have a younger friend, who essentially lived with us (Son’s best friend) in his school years. He is a talented Aircraft Engineer, Pilot, and finished his last tour with the Navy flying drones in “the sandbox”.

One of his earlier assignments was leading an Aircraft Recovery team in Iraq made up of civilian contractors, most with a lot of aircraft maintenance experience. They would find downed aircraft and arrange to either fly them out or have them recovered by heavy helicopters. I asked him specifically what he did on the team and he replied “I mostly stayed out of the way and let these pros do their job. My function was to find out what they needed and make sure they got it.”  He learned young that education does not equate with knowledge earned through long experience.  I like to think I was part of that learning experience.




The worst Educated Idiots I have ever encountered are those whose parents paid for their education in what is now a several year party and vacation. Many of today’s college courses involve putting information in short term memory and regurgitating it on a test in a couple weeks. Very little real learning takes place there.  And it shows when they hit the workplace.

The absolute worst are those who emerge from college with advanced degrees, like law or medicine and have never worked a day in their lives.  The medical field is a bit better than law because they do require a residency. These 20 and 30 something, “trust fund babies”, are long on arrogance and self importance, but real short on life experience and practical knowledge.



I recall the mantra of the 1960’s - - - “Never trust anyone over thirty!” - - - I think today we would be wise if we “do not trust anyone under 40”.  They simply have not lived long enough to know much of anything.
